The name ‘Lagavulin’ is Gaelic and means ‘the hollow in which the mill stands’.
Lagavulin nestles in a small bay on the south-east coast of Islay and produces its complex whiskies in pear-shaped stills, the copper stills.
The intense taste of peat is clearly noticeable in these whiskies from Lagavulin.
They are matured for 16 years in American oak casks.
Colour: Amber.
Nose: smoke, salt, malt, sherry.
Taste: Oily, peat smoke, salt, sherry, wood, spices.
Finish: Long lasting and smoky.
