The recipe dates back to the year 1510. However, a good 3 centuries were to pass before it achieved world fame. In fact, the Benedictine had fallen into oblivion until 1863, when the French merchant Alexandre Le Grand came across the secret formula in inherited documents. It is he who, after some experiments, puts the Benedictine DOM on the market and thus makes the bar world a little richer.
